Products

Three categories. The right question is which goal each one is for.

We distribute equity, debt and hybrid mutual funds. What follows explains what each category does — it is education, not a recommendation to buy any particular scheme.

7 years and beyond

Equity mutual funds

Ownership in listed businesses, pooled across many companies. The category with the highest long-term potential and the widest year-to-year swings.

Typically used for

Goals far enough away that a bad two years does not matter — retirement, a child's higher education, long-term wealth.

Worth knowing

Values fall, sometimes sharply. Money you may need within five years does not belong here.

1 day to 5 years

Debt mutual funds

Lending, not owning — government securities, corporate bonds and money market instruments. Steadier, with returns closer to fixed income.

Typically used for

Emergency corpus, a house deposit two years out, school fees next year, and the stability portion of any portfolio.

Worth knowing

Steadier is not risk-free: credit quality and interest rate movements both affect returns.

3 to 7 years

Hybrid mutual funds

A managed mix of equity and debt in a single scheme, rebalanced by the fund manager rather than by you.

Typically used for

First-time investors, mid-term goals, and anyone who wants equity exposure with the swings damped down.

Worth knowing

The equity portion still falls in a bad market — less far, but it falls.

Imperial India Mudra Investments Pvt. Ltd. is an AMFI registered mutual fund distributor. Choosing

How a scheme actually gets chosen.

Category first, then the scheme. Reversing that order is how portfolios end up with eleven funds doing the same job.

01

The goal sets the horizon

How long until the money is needed decides the category before anything else.

02

The horizon sets the mix

Short goals go to debt. Long goals can carry equity. Mid goals often suit hybrid.

03

Then the scheme

Consistency across cycles, mandate discipline, cost and fund house process — not last year's rank.

04

Then it gets reviewed

Allocations drift and goals move closer. A plan that is never revisited is not a plan.
